We all know that moment when the check engine light comes on and your heart sinks... but sometimes the cause ends up being hilarious or totally unexpected.
👉 I wanted to start a thread where we share our funniest or weirdest check engine light stories.
I’ll start:
Last year my CEL came on, I scanned it with my little OBD2 scanner and it showed P0455 — Evaporative Emissions Leak (Large Leak). I was super worried thinking it was something major with the emissions system... until I realized my gas cap was loose. 🤦♂️$0 repair = problem solved. 😂
Your turn — let’s hear your funny OBD2 or CEL moments! 🚗💡

A few months ago, my check engine light started flashing while driving on the highway. The car started shaking badly, so I immediately pulled over, heart pounding. My scanner read P0300 – Random Misfire Detected. I was thinking: “Oh no… engine, coils, fuel injectors… $$$” 😬
But after 10 minutes of freaking out, I popped the hood and realized something embarrassing — I had left my lunch sandwich wrapper sitting loosely near the air intake when I was checking the air filter earlier that day.
The plastic wrapper partially blocked the airflow sensor causing the misfire! 😅
Removed it. Reset the code. Smooth engine ever since. Moral of the story: Always clean up after working under the hood. 😂
