Quote from CodeHunterJoe on June 10, 2025, 11:32 pmI’m planning to upgrade from my basic code reader and currently looking at two powerful scan tools: Innova 5610 and Autel MK808Z.
I work on a few different vehicles, mostly family cars (Toyota, Ford, Nissan). I want to start doing more than just reading codes — like running system tests, bi-directional controls, and live data graphing.
Here’s what I’m considering:
Autel MK808Z has a tablet-style touchscreen and seems faster
Innova 5610 offers OEM-level data, live PID monitoring, and emissions readiness
Questions:
Which one is better for bi-directional controls and active tests?
Are updates free on both devices?
Is the Autel app/interface easier to use for a beginner?
Which one has better vehicle coverage overall?
Would love to hear from anyone who’s used both or has hands-on experience. Thanks in advance!

Quote from Kevin Nicholas on June 11, 2025, 7:30 amI have both. Autel MK808Z definitely wins in bi-directional tests — it can activate fuel pumps, radiator fans, windows, etc., depending on the car. Innova 5610 is great for live data and maintenance tasks but lacks full actuator control on many vehicles.

Quote from CheckEngineChamp on June 11, 2025, 1:00 pmMK808Z is faster and more versatile. Plus, you get Android-based navigation, touchscreen, and large storage for updates.
However, for quick plug-and-play diagnostics, I still prefer the Innova 5610 — especially on American vehicles. Its repair solutions are top-notch.

Quote from CarGuyBrad on June 11, 2025, 1:09 pmDon’t forget: Autel requires yearly subscription after the first free year for updates. Innova doesn’t — you can still use the device and get basic updates free.
If you’re okay with the tablet format and paid updates, MK808Z is more future-proof.

Quote from WrenchWizard on June 16, 2025, 12:18 pmOne thing I love about Innova 5610 is the emissions readiness monitor and hybrid battery diagnostics. It’s also better when you don’t want to deal with touchscreens or app updates.
