How do I know if my brake rotors need replacing?

I’ve recently started feeling some vibration through the brake pedal when slowing down. I’m wondering if this could mean my brake rotors are going bad. What are the common signs that indicate it’s time to replace brake rotors? Also, how often should rotors typically be changed? Any advice would help! 🚗✅

You can tell if your brake rotors need replacing by looking for a few key signs:

1️⃣ Vibrations When Braking: If you feel shaking or vibration in the steering wheel or brake pedal when you apply the brakes, it often indicates warped or uneven rotors.

2️⃣ Squealing or Grinding Noise: A high-pitched squeal or grinding sound when braking usually points to rotor damage or extreme wear.

3️⃣ Visible Damage: If you visually inspect the rotors through your wheels and see deep grooves, scoring, rust buildup, or cracks, it's time to replace them.

4️⃣ Increased Stopping Distance: If your vehicle is taking longer than normal to stop, worn rotors (along with worn pads) can be the culprit.

5️⃣ Brake Pad Inspection: Sometimes, a brake service technician will measure the rotor thickness when changing brake pads. If they’re below the manufacturer’s minimum thickness, they’ll recommend replacing them.

If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to get a professional mechanic to inspect your braking system. Replacing rotors on time helps maintain safe braking performance!
